Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear, plastic and comfortable aligners to shift your teeth into a healthier position. You’ll receive a series of aligners, crafted using 3D imaging, which you wear for two weeks at a time, 22 hours or more per day. Each Invisalign tray is custom-made to fit your teeth, from the beginning of your treatment until you reach your final result.
Typically, Invisalign works best for mild to moderate alignment issues, but our orthodontist can determine whether the treatment will fit your needs and lifestyle during an examination. If you are showing signs of a severe orthodontic problem, we may recommend a more efficient solution.
Most patients desire Invisalign due to its cosmetic appeal. Because the aligners are made of clear plastic, they are virtually invisible when worn. Additionally, you can eat any food while using Invisalign since you are required to remove the aligners every time you eat, brush or floss.
When comparing Invisalign to traditional silver braces, Invisalign can be a more flexible orthodontic treatment. Whereas silver braces adhere to the teeth for a specified amount of time, Invisalign aligners are removable.
Our orthodontist will determine whether Invisalign is right for you during a free examination. Once x-rays are taken, and an examination is complete, our orthodontist will take scans of your teeth and determine the most efficient way to improve their alignment. The scans are sent to an Invisalign laboratory along with directions from our orthodontist, and the lab will fabricate a series of aligners just for you. Afterward, they are sent back to our orthodontist, who will give you the first several sets of aligners to start the process.
As with any orthodontic treatment, you will come into our office for a check-up normally every 2 to 4 months so we can see how your teeth are progressing with Invisalign and give you your next set of aligners. We schedule these appointments so they work with your busy schedule.
Adults and teens are the best candidates for Invisalign treatment since their permanent teeth have fully erupted. For teenagers, we offer Invisalign Teen, which is a specific version of Invisalign made for adolescents.
The length of your treatment with Invisalign depends on your personal treatment plan. The number of trays you receive will depend on the severity of your misalignment and will impact how long you must use Invisalign.
Cleaning your Invisalign trays is simple and can be completed at the same time as your everyday oral hygiene practice. When you are finished cleaning your teeth, you should also brush your Invisalign aligners and rinse them under lukewarm water. Many of our patients will pick up a second inexpensive toothbrush for cleaning the aligners at night. Please don’t use toothpaste to clean but instead use hand soap and just rinse well. Additionally, we recommend that you brush your teeth after every meal to ensure no food debris becomes lodged in your aligners.
The number of patients using Invisalign continues to grow, and that’s because it is one of the most effective orthodontic treatments available. Our doctors combined have treated over 500 Invisalign cases and have plenty of experience with the Invisalign system. The number of Invisalign smiles grows daily.
