men with braces

When people picture someone who has braces, they likely imagine a middle schooler or high schooler. While this age is typically when patients go through orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth with braces, adults can always benefit from having braces. Many college students and young adults get braces so they can enjoy their perfect smiles and benefit from good long-term oral health. But what about people a generation, or even two generations, older?

Get the Smile You’ve Always Wanted

If you’ve reached the age of 50 or better, you may think you’re past the time when you can benefit from having braces. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. You’ll always be able to benefit from orthodontic treatment.

You’re never too old to get the smile you’ve always wanted. When you straighten your teeth with braces, you will be able to smile bigger and prouder than ever as you show off your bright smile. Whether you’re nearing retirement or you simply want to treat yourself, getting braces will be a great decision.

Take Care of Your Teeth

Beyond the benefit of being able to show off a beautiful, straight smile, there are plenty of other reasons to get braces as an adult. When you straighten your teeth, you make it easier to clean your teeth while reducing your chances of tooth decay. When teeth are crowded, it’s easier for food particles to get stuck in between them and harder to clean them off. These compounding problems can make it more likely for you to experience tooth decay.

Fixing other problems like uneven teeth, underbites, or overbites will improve your bite and protect your teeth from uneven wear or unnecessary stress.

Orthodontic Treatment Options for Adults

One aspect of braces that is often a deterrent for patients is their appearance. Many teens don’t like the idea of having visible metal in their mouths, and as an adult, this is even truer. Thankfully, there are plenty of less visible treatment options. Ceramic braces are just as effective as conventional silver braces. However, they feature ceramic brackets that are clear instead of metal, which makes them more discreet. You can also choose champagne-colored metal braces for a more subtle appearance.

The least visible option for orthodontic treatment is the Invisalign Clear Aligner System. This treatment allows you to get straight teeth using clear plastic aligners. Not only are these aligners totally invisible, they are also removable for meals and snacks, meaning you can keep enjoying your favorite foods. While Invisalign used to be fairly limited in the cases it could handle, it can now handle a broader range of patients thanks to Invisalign attachments.
